Managed IT Support Sydney: Published Prices, Nothing Locked In
Three building blocks instead of a bundled retainer: labour at $180/hr ex GST, an optional $29.95-per-endpoint security baseline with no monthly floor, and device management quoted against your actual fleet. One senior engineer owns the lot, and you pay only for the labour you use. It is the flexible managed IT support Sydney SMBs keep asking for, month-to-month from day one with no 36-month term. Working out a budget? See how managed IT services are priced, or what a virtual CIO adds above the day-to-day.
- $180/hr ex GST, all labour
- $29.95/endpoint/mo optional baseline
- Month-to-month, 30 days notice
The numbers, published where the quote form usually goes
Plenty of IT support Sydney providers gate their pricing behind a contact form. Ours sits right here: labour is hourly, the baseline and device management are opt-in, and every figure below is ex GST. For a plain-English breakdown of what an hour actually covers, see our IT support pricing guide.
Ad-Hoc Support
- Troubleshooting, fixes, project work and straight advice
- Configuration changes and remediation
- Usually cheapest for a lean team
Security Baseline
- Secure remote-support platform and centralised endpoint management
- Bitdefender-powered antivirus with automated patching
- Tooling only — hands-on time still bills at $180/hr
Device Management
- Enrolment, configuration profiles and compliance policy
- Whichever of Windows, macOS, iOS and Android you run
- A fleet that behaves consistently across every desk
Stack only what applies. Take ad-hoc support at $180/hr ex GST alone, add the security baseline, add device management, or run all three together. Each part is quoted on its own and never bundled to disguise another: EDR/XDR add-ons, cloud backup, hardware and specialist projects such as websites, networking, audits and migrations are priced as labour at $180/hr plus product costs, in writing before anything starts.
Why Sydney businesses go shopping for a new IT provider
Three stories come up on almost every scoping call, from Surry Hills studios to warehouses out past Parramatta. See if any feel familiar — we wrote up the full list in 7 IT mistakes we keep finding in small-business offices.
Nobody actually owns your IT
The tenant was set up by a contractor, antivirus by a different supplier, backups by whoever bought the NAS. MFA covers half the staff and nobody tracks the laptops. When something fails there is no owner, no documentation and no single number to ring.
Reactive support, nothing proactive
Your current provider appears after the damage, never before it. Updates lag months behind, licence renewals sail through unreviewed, new starters wait days for a working laptop, and the backup has never once been test-restored.
Three-year terms and a portal in the way
The big-name Sydney MSPs quote three-year terms, chunky onboarding fees and a portal between you and a human. Cancelling is engineered to be painful, which tells you plenty about the model.
Three parts — combine what fits, skip what doesn't
Instead of a retainer stuffed with things you will not use, there are three published components. Stack the ones that apply to your business, and have project work quoted separately when it appears.
Ad-Hoc Support
- Every hour of hands-on work, from troubleshooting to project builds, bills at the same $180/hr ex GST
- Nothing to sign, no minimum spend, and no separate "fixed-fee" labour tier
- The baseline below bundles zero labour hours; human time always lands here
- Usually the cheapest arrangement for a small team that rarely calls
Security Baseline
- One per-endpoint fee covering secure remote support, centralised endpoint management, Bitdefender-powered antivirus and automated patching
- $29.95 per endpoint per month ex GST, and no monthly floor to clear
- Tooling only: no labour is included, so hands-on time bills at $180/hr ex GST
- See the Managed Security Essentials page for the full per-device breakdown
Device Management (MDM)
- Windows, macOS, iOS and Android in whatever mix your team carries
- Enrolment, configuration profiles and compliance policy keeping the fleet consistent
- Quoted per device against your real fleet, never a generic per-seat guess
- Works standalone, or stacked on the security baseline if you take both
Larger jobs get their own written quote
These live outside the three components above. Labour at $180/hr ex GST plus any hardware or licensing costs, quoted in writing before anything starts. Need direction rather than hands-on work? Our virtual CIO service covers IT roadmaps, budgeting and vendor management, and our compliance and risk management work covers what your regulator or insurer checks:
- Cloud backup sized to the data you actually want protected
- WordPress web design & hosting, or a fully custom build
- Network design, hardening and ongoing care
- Security audits and Essential 8 alignment reviews
- Platform migrations, whether Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 or on-prem to cloud
A few things we'd rather flag now than later
- Labour never changes. $180/hr ex GST is the only rate. There is no fixed-fee tier, and the $29.95 security baseline is tooling only, with no hands-on hours inside it.
- EDR / XDR is a separate line. The baseline runs Bitdefender-powered antivirus; behavioural telemetry and threat hunting on top get quoted as an add-on.
- No monthly floor exists on the baseline. You pay $29.95 ex GST for each endpoint you choose to protect, and nothing beyond that.
- When ad-hoc at $180/hr works out cheaper for your team, we say so on the call. A small office has no business paying for a subscription it will not use.
From First Call to Steady State
Roughly two weeks end to end, with visibility at every stage.
Scoping call (20 minutes)
We count endpoints, look at your current tools and devices, and work out which parts you genuinely need. If ad-hoc at $180/hr alone is the cheapest fit, that is what we recommend.
Onboarding (1–2 weeks)
Environment mapped, the security baseline deployed where you want it, devices enrolled, and the first patch and policy baseline set. Setup labour bills at the same $180/hr ex GST as everything else.
Monthly rhythm
Patching runs to schedule, policies stay enforced, alerts get triaged, new starters get onboarded. A monthly snapshot shows what patched, what was blocked and what is coming, and you talk to the technician rather than a queue.
What you can expect, honestly
- Published rates. $180/hr labour, $29.95/endpoint baseline, per-device management quoted to your fleet. No "true-up" surprises, and every project priced before it starts.
- One technician. Devices, security, backup and networking handled by the same Sydney engineer, instead of five vendors pointing at each other.
- You speak to the technician. Aaron is the technician. There is no ticket queue standing between you and the person doing the work.
- No lock-in. Month-to-month, 30 days' notice and you are gone. That is the leverage that keeps us sharp.
- Add-ons priced openly. EDR/XDR, cloud backup, helpdesk hours and projects are all quoted per line item, in writing, before anything starts.
One Owner of Your IT, or Break-Fix Forever
Ad-hoc support handles the occasional fault well. The trouble starts when nobody owns the preventative work: small issues stack quietly until one of them turns expensive.
| What you get | Break-fix / ad-hoc only | Support Sydney managed IT |
|---|---|---|
| Who owns your IT | Nobody — it lands back on you | One accountable owner who already knows your setup |
| When things get done | Only once you have noticed and rung | Ahead of time, before it lands on your desk |
| Patching & updates | Sporadically, if at all | On a schedule and tracked across every device |
| Security posture | Reactive — tightened up after an incident | Baseline maintained and gaps closed to a plan |
| Knowing your environment | Explained again on every call | Documented, so we already know it |
| Billing | $180/hr, with unpredictable spikes | $180/hr labour plus published parts you combine yourself |
| Lock-in | None, and no continuity either | Month-to-month — continuity without the handcuffs |
Honest rule of thumb: a business that needs help once in a blue moon belongs on ad-hoc at $180/hr ex GST, and we will say exactly that. Once IT starts getting in the way of running the company, one owner pays for itself in the problems you never hear about.
Frequently Asked Questions
The questions that come up on nearly every scoping call, answered before you ask them.
What is managed IT support?
Managed IT means one provider takes ongoing responsibility for the technology your business runs on — patching, monitoring, security and day-to-day help — rather than turning up only when something has already broken. Here that means a senior engineer owns your environment: devices patched on a schedule, the security baseline kept current, and faults dealt with before they interrupt anyone. What you buy is a set of published parts you combine — hourly labour, an optional per-endpoint security baseline, device management — not a retainer with someone else deciding what is in it.
How much does managed IT support cost in Sydney?
Labour is $180/hr ex GST, and the optional security baseline is $29.95 per endpoint per month. There is no fixed-fee labour plan and no monthly minimum to clear. Device management is quoted against your actual fleet. Everything runs month-to-month, projects are priced in writing before anyone starts, and you only ever pay for hours genuinely spent — which is why a quiet month costs a quiet month.
How long is the contract?
There isn't one worth the name. Everything runs month-to-month and you can exit with 30 days' written notice. Much of the Sydney market pushes 24-36 month terms; our view is that being easy to leave is what keeps a provider honest.
What's NOT included by default?
The $29.95 security baseline is tooling only: secure remote support platform, managed endpoint platform, Bitdefender-powered AV and patching automation. Sitting outside it are:
- Labour, which always bills at $180/hr ex GST with no fixed-fee plan
- EDR / XDR, a priced add-on above the base antivirus
- Device management (MDM), quoted per device as its own component
- Cloud backup, scoped separately to the data you want protected
- Hardware, websites, networking and major projects, quoted as projects (labour at $180/hr plus product costs) before work starts
Every item on that list arrives as a written quote first, so no invoice ever surprises you.
Is there a minimum business size?
None. The baseline bills $29.95 ex GST per endpoint you choose to protect with no monthly minimum, and ad-hoc carries no minimum either. A two-person office that rarely calls is usually best on ad-hoc at $180/hr ex GST alone, and the scoping call is where we tell you that.
How long does onboarding take?
With the security baseline, device management or both, most small Sydney businesses are fully running inside a fortnight:
- Week 1: Discovery, environment review, baseline and Bitdefender rollout, device enrolment, and the first patch and policy pass.
- Week 2: Policies tuned to your environment, the asset inventory verified, and your first monthly report delivered.
Setup labour bills at $180/hr ex GST, quoted up front. Specialist work such as backup, networking or migrations gets scoped on its own, and you see everything as it happens.
We already have an internal IT person — can you still help?
Happily. Co-managed arrangements are common here. Your internal person keeps the day-to-day ownership and business context while we sit underneath with the security baseline, device management, patching discipline and escalation support, billing labour at $180/hr ex GST as needed.
Some of our best-fit clients run exactly this way. Nobody gets replaced; the internal person gains a real management console plus patch and policy automation.
What's the difference between EDR and the base antivirus?
The baseline ships Bitdefender-powered antivirus: real-time scanning, heuristics, web traffic security, anti-phishing and ransomware protection. EDR and XDR add behavioural telemetry and threat hunting above that, priced as an add-on rather than folded in.
For the typical Sydney small business, centralised endpoint management plus Bitdefender is the right-sized answer, and we say plainly when a risk profile genuinely calls for more. The Managed Security Essentials page holds the full detail.
Which parts do I actually need, and how do they fit together?
They stack rather than compete. Labour is $180/hr ex GST for everyone, and it is the only labour rate there is. On top you can add the optional $29.95/endpoint security baseline (no minimum) and custom per-device management, taking one, two or all three.
When occasional ad-hoc help is genuinely all a business needs, that is the advice it gets. The right mix comes out of the scoping call, with no pressure attached.
Do you only do security, or full managed IT?
The full stack. The managed IT services Sydney clients take from us reach well beyond the per-endpoint baseline on the Managed Security Essentials page, which is one optional piece.
That reach includes device management (MDM), cloud backup, website hosting and management, network design and hardening, security audits with Essential 8 alignment, and migrations from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 or on-prem to cloud, each delivered as a quoted project with labour at $180/hr ex GST.
